Monk is at the local firehouse getting his smoke alarms examined, but an intruder murders a firefighter and blinds Monk when he throws a solvent onto his face. At first Monk has trouble coping with the fact that he's lost his eyesight, but soon realizes how much happier he is now that he isn't able to see all the filth surrounding him.
